**** FOUR STARS
THE trousers are verging nicely on the comedy side of baggy. The walk tends towards a rolling gait that is gently Chaplinesque. And the face? The face has an artless elasticity that flits from hangdog to happy, with nods to vulnerability and chipper delight along the way. We’re talking classic clown, here, and Jango Starr is a master of that art. Juggling and magic, too as young audiences – ideal age range is 5 to 11 years – enthusiastically discover in the course of his solo show, One Man Shoe.
Starr is the shabby caretaker tasked with making sure that, backstage, everything is in place for the next show. There’s been a party in one dressing-room, so the clutzy Starr takes on the shambles – which lands him in a ridiculous fankle as inanimate objects take on a life of their own and constantly wrong foot him. Even his own shoe bamboozles him. One thing, however, is definitely not in place: the main attraction, Fantastico. Starr’s transformation into the missing illusionist is a wistful dream that comes heartwarmingly true: he swishes from being lackadaisical and accident-prone into a class act, as if Fantastico’s spooky top hat and tails confer the confidence to do real magic. Part of the magic here is how an ace creative team – with Gerry Mulgrew (director), Becky Minto (designer) and Philip Pinsky (sound) in the mix – has given Starr a subtly sophisticated framework that allows the naive simplicity of his character to triumph over ongoing adversity. In the end, however, it’s Starr’s own flair and expertise that captivates – like the rabbit-puppet he hypnotises, we’re knocked out by him!
It was just brilliant; hugely entertaining, and really impressive, and the squeals and shrieks of laughter from the children (and the grown-ups too!) was magical to hear. We'd love to have you back sometime!

Nairn Book and Arts Festival were delighted to have Jango Starr and 'One Man Shoe' show and workshop to Nairn in September 2017. His enthusiasm and warm charm were received well by the children and parents alike - they all enjoyed the brilliant mix of magic, circus skills and his character portrayal of the loveable caretaker, Jango Starr - gave the audience a full hour of 'laugh out loud' moments! Loved each and every minute of it!

It is a great little show, brilliantly performed, funny and charming. Catch it if you can. NEAT (North East Arts Touring)
Jango Starr returns with 50 mins of high quality family theatre - one of the few pieces of theatre we have had two years running. Just as enjoyable for adults so you don't need to bring a child - but one is always welcome!

Absolutely superb, top quality, fantastic.
Caught the world premiere of One Man Shoe in Lochgelly earlier today, together with two 10 year old boys. Lovely show full of tricks and treats. Boys were raving about it on the way home. For anybody who likes magic, physical theatre and slapstick. Catch Jango on one of his tour dates! Magdalena Schamberger
Fantastic show, I’d definitely come again.
I bought my 2yr old and 6yr old. They both enjoyed all of it. They were kept entertained throughout which is quite an achievement! We all liked the character that Jango created-full of fun. The no talking made it more accessible for a wide age range and made it more imaginative.
Brilliant Show-we loved it! Jango was an amazing performer. I loved the soundtrack and thought it complemented the show very well. There was great attention to detail. Everything seemed very well thought through and choreographed. My 3yr old laughed the whole way through.
This show was really nice and funny! It was interesting to see how he created a complete universe with just a few accessories.
Brilliant. Extremely clever combination of classic clown, movement and mime. Very enjoyable for all ages.Loved it! Children entranced and lovely to hear them laughing!
This show is excellent. Very clever the way the clowning and magic transition together seamlessly. Really enjoyable show, music works well too.
